Одним из действенных путей повышения качества и эффективности обучения является ролевая игра. В данной статье мы рассматриваем организацию ролевой игры по теме«Why do people learn foreign languages?» («Почему люди изучают иностранные языки?»). Ролевая игра позволяет обсудить эту тему с разных точек зрения и вызывает большую активность у учащихся (студентов). В ней смоделированы ситуации общения, которые приближают речевую деятельность на уроке к реальной коммуникации. Эту игру можно успешно использовать при повторении темы в старших классах средней школы и в работе со студентами.

В начале игры преподаватель сообщает студентам о задачах и этапах игры: «Dearstudents! People learn foreign languages for different purposes. And today we are going to talk about it. You will act out different roles and speak about the importance of learning foreign languages».

Ролевая игра состоит из 3-х основных этапов: подготовительного, собственно игры и заключительного этапа.

На подготовительном этапе учащиеся знакомятся с ролевой ситуацией, настраиваются на принятие роли и активное участие в игре.

При распределении ролей преподавателю необходимо учитывать языковую подготовку и индивидуальные особенности учащихся. Так как ролевая игра, как правило,проводится на завершающем этапе работы над темой, то лексический материал,используемый в описании ролей и необходимый для их исполнения, уже отработан. На уроке достаточным может быть повторение ключевых слов и выражений. Также важной является подготовленность учащихся к выполнению речевых упражнений,предваряющих ролевую игру. Вот примеры некоторых из них:

1. Expand the statement by adding a sentence or two:

— Today English is the most important international language. (It is the language of science andtechnology, trade and business).

—A lot of people learn English as a foreign language. (They would like to read English books in theoriginal).

— Learning a foreign language is а hard work. (It’s true. It takes much time and effort).

2. Setting priorities: Why to learn English? Number these reasons in order of importance:

—to be well-educated;

—to speak to other people;

—to learn more about different countries, their cultures and traditions;

—to prepare for a good job;

—to travel to other countries etc.

3. Agree or disagree and give reasons why:

— English is the only important international language. (I don’t think so. There are other important languages in the world: French, German, Russian, Chinese, Arabic).

— English is the language of science. (It’s true. Scientific conferences are often held in English).

Приведенные упражнения являются хорошей подготовкой к ролевой игре, так как они вовлекают учащихся в речевое общение, и им приходится высказывать свою точку зрения,соглашаться или нет, приводить аргументы и т.д.

Второй этап — собственно игра.

Учащиеся,исполняя различные роли, осваивают учебный материал в условиях, приближенных к реальному речевому общению. Деятельность преподавателя сводится к наблюдению и контролю за ходом игры. В случае необходимости преподаватель может вмешаться в игру,направляя деятельность студентов.

На заключительном этапе проводится обсуждение результатов игры. Преподаватель обращает внимание на активность учащихся, допущенные ошибки. Он может поинтересоваться их мнением о предложенных ролях.

В ходе игры данная тема рассматривается с разных точек зрения. Участниками игры являются:

• человек, который любит путешествовать;

• родитель;

• бизнесмен;

• жена бизнесмена;

• специалист (инженер, ученый);

• учитель иностранного языка;

• ученик школы;

• президент детского фонда города.

Количество ролевых ситуаций может варьироваться, преподаватель может предложить и другие роли. Следует помнить, что роли должны быть посильными и давать возможность участникам высказать свое мнение. Описание роли дается в ролевой карточке.

Ролевая карточка — это своего рода опора, стимулирующая самостоятельное высказывание учащихся. Информация в карточке не должна излагаться слишком подробно, чтобы участник игры не лишался возможности проявить творчество.

You are a person who is fond of travelling.

You are sure that the best way to study geography is to travel and the best way to get to know people is to meet them in their own homes. Every country has its customs. You’d like to know more about them.

Travelling enriches your knowledge of the worldand broadens your outlook. Today, English is spoken in different parts of the world and if you can speak it, you can communicate with people of different nations.

Role 2

You are the parent of children who are learning English at school.

As parents you naturally want the best for your children. You hope that if they learn English or German well it will be useful for them in their future life. You’d like your children to be educated people.

You are also sure that learning foreign languages improves a child’s memory, develops their abilities and broadens their outlook. You tell your children to work hard at their English and you tell them howimportant foreign languages are.

Role 3

You are a young promising businessman.

You are going to organize a joint enterprise withan American company. It goes without saying you must know English in order to make progress in your business. You understand that English is the most important international language. Many international firms, even in non-English countries, operate throughout the world in English.

You often have to travel to other countries andalthough you have an interpreter with you, it is also good for you to be able to speak English yourself.

Role 4

You are a wife.

Your husband is a young promising businessman. He is going to organize a joint enterprise with an American firm. He often travels to other countries. Sometimes you travel with him too. You also invite your foreign guests to the house for dinner. Then you realize how awkward you feel when you cannot hold a conversation. You would like to learn English because it is spoken in different countries.

Role 5

You are an engineer.

Several years ago you graduated from the university. You are a talented engineer. You have now decided to improve your English.

To be a good specialist you must know about new achievements in science and engineering. You realize that today English is the most important international language and a lot of books and journals abroad are published in English. 60 per cent of the world’s telephone calls are in English.

Role 6

You are an English teacher.

You tell your pupils about the importance of learning foreign languages. You say that English is one of the most important international languages. About 350 million people speak English as their first language. About the same number use it as a second language. 75 per cent of the world’s mail is in English. In many countries it is the language of business, commerce and technology.

Role 8

You are the President of the City’s Children’s Fund.

You are sure that today English and other foreign languages are becoming increasingly important. Different delegations arrive in your city and among them there are those that deal with children’s problems. You have to meet them and cooperate with them.

You also make contacts with foreign companies to organize children’s art exhibitions or to send sick children for treatment abroad. Most foreign papers you receive at the office are in English.

Итак,описание ролевой ситуации позволяет учащимся легче адаптироваться к роли, неограничивая самостоятельности высказывания. Каждый участник ролевой игры совершает речевые действия, обусловленные ситуацией общения, и тем самым осознает, как приобретенные знания могут быть применены на практике.

Успешное проведение ролевой игры во многом зависит от соблюдения определенных условий:

1.Ролевая игра должна быть тщательно продумана и подготовлена с учетом лингвистических способностей учащихся.

2.Ролевая игра должна обеспечивать максимальное включение учащихся в коммуникативную деятельность и проводиться в доброжелательной атмосфере.

3. Ролевая игра должна быть понятной и интересной учащимся.

4.Ролевая игра проводится на основе ситуаций, адекватных реальным ситуациям общения.

5.Ролевая игра должна обеспечивать эффективное использование изучаемого языкового материала в активном речевом общении.

6. Ролевая игра не должна носить эпизодического характера.Таким образом, ролевая игра вовлекает студентов в активную речевую деятельность, сопровождается большим эмоциональным подъемом и создает предпосылки для развития самостоятельности и творчества студентов.
